Google Is Rolling Out A New Video Indexing Report

Google teased a new video indexing report months ago, and now it’s gradually rolling out.

The video indexing report shows the number of indexed pages that have videos on them. It also shows how many of those pages the video may be indexed on. Using this report, you can identify areas for improvement and understand your videos’ performance on Google. Here’s what it looks like:

What Does The Report..report?

If Google detects videos on your website, the report will appear on the left navigation bar. It will show you the status of video indexing for your site and help you find answers to the following questions:

  1. In how many pages has Google identified a video?

  2. Which videos were indexed successfully?

  3. What are the issues preventing videos from being indexed?

If you fix an issue, use the report and validate the fix. The report can also track if and how your fixed video pages are updated, Google said.

They also mentioned how this report has nothing to do with the Video Rich results report, which has not changed and still shows the validity of your Video structured data items.

Inspection of A Specific Page

Google also enhanced the URL inspection tool. That lets you check the video indexing status of a specific page. If Google detects a video on a page, you can see the following:

  1. Details such as the video URL and the thumbnail URL.

  2. The page status showing whether the video was indexed or not.

  3. List of issues preventing the video from being indexed.

Why This Matters?

It matters if you host or embed videos on your site. You want your pages to function properly and make sure you used all the ways to improve the results. After all, you want to show up on those SERPs, right? This report will definitely help you get closer to the first page.

I’m not seeing this yet across sites, but eager to dig in once it rolls out more widely. Check your properties in GSC. You might see the new Video indexing report. https://t.co/LOWuvPNPly — Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) June 10, 2022
